Welcome to Mrs Volland's Class Website!
What my classroom looks like.....
I am hoping this year to trial "Google Classroom" in my classroom.
You may ask "What is Google Classroom?"
A Google Classroom is a blended learning platform for schools that aim to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. Designed for teachers and students, I can create classes, distribute assignments, send feedback, and see everything in one place. Students can see their assignments, see their feedback, collaborate online and use skills that will make them a 21st century learner.
I am heavily into technology. I use iPads, Mobis, Smart Board as well as desktops computers and laptops which are readily available in my classroom. I feel that I am forward thinking in my teaching methods and in very much favor of 21st century learning.
I am excited to be in 3rd grade for this year! I am hoping that this website will make communication easier and finding homework simpler.
We use Discovery Education ALOT at school. If your child is not sure about a concept, or have been taught a Science unit, you should be able to find a video or lesson plan online that will help. I myself have designed a few units of lesson plans online and this can be used as a study guide for an upcoming test or assessment.
EPIC Reading App
Download this app on your tablet, iPad, kindle or other device
Log in using the username and password I will give your child at school. If you are unable to find this password, there is a password tab on this website which may help!
Epic! is the leading all-you-can-read eBook library for kids 12 and under offering unlimited access to over 10,000 high-quality children’s books, now including thousands of read-to-me and Audio books.
In class, we will set a goal to read one FICTION, one NON FICTION and one JUST FOR FUN book from this website each week.
XtraMath helps your child master the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts that are the building blocks of your child's math education. Recalling the basic arithmetic facts quickly and easily is essential for success with fractions, decimals, and multi-digit algorithms. It also frees up mental resources for more complex problem solving.
XtraMath student activities are simple and straightforward and take only a few minutes each day. The program uses sophisticated methods to present your child with the right problem at the right time to maximize the effectiveness of practice. Students earn a certificate of achievement when they complete an operation.
I use this app to message parents. I try not to message too many times, but it is a good communication tool so that reminders are sent in the least intrusive manner possible. Please follow send the code given to you - either at Meet The Teacher night or later I will send it home)
The best part of this app is that you can message me too! I try to be available for any messages, and this is the quickest way to get a response!
I use this class app to manage the classroom. Each child get assigned a avatar, and then gains points for turning in homework, showing respect, helping others, taking a risk, etc. This is a great motivator for students!
Each time they earn a certain amount of points, students can choose a reward. If you are interested in seeing what your child is earning rewards for, please sign up for email reports.
Every Monday, I will email a newsletter home. I will attach this to your Remind app too.
What will be child be learning? Please check this newsletter for upcoming information and the standards your child will be learning that week. It will be great information if you want to review a certain standard with your child. There will be links embedded in the newsletter so your child can review or practice any skill we have learned that week or in previous weeks.
Homework will be clearly indicated in this newsletter too. I try to (as often as my memory will allow me) to send home a screenshot of the homework agenda for that upcoming week. This will ensure that any last minute changes are communicated. Try as I might to keep my website up to date, some changes happen without any warning!
Calendar - this will be updated every week with any PTA events, school events and in particular 3rd grade is full of assessments and tests that your child will need to participate in.
Notes from the Teacher: There will be a note from me - usually this will be asking for donations for the classroom, volunteers for field trips, reminders for upcoming events, etc.
